Unlock an electric city bike from the red racks beside Vaglið square. Use the Donkey Republic app. Ride off in seconds.
Taxis line up at the harbor and SMS Centre. A run to Kirkjubøur costs about twice the bus fare. Decide fast.
Common Scams to Avoid
Taxi drivers at Vágar Airport sometimes insist the meter is 'broken' and quote a flat fare to Tórshavn that's significantly above the regulated rate. Always insist on the meter or agree on a fare before leaving the airport, and note that legitimate taxis display yellow license plates.
Some car rental agencies at the airport have been known to charge for pre-existing damage that wasn't marked on the initial inspection form. Take detailed photos of the vehicle from all angles before driving away, and ensure any scratches or dents are documented in writing.
Currency exchange kiosks at the airport occasionally advertise 'no commission' while building in an unfavorable exchange rate that's not clearly disclosed. Use the ATMs in the terminal instead, which typically offer standard bank rates, or wait to exchange money in Tórshavn where competition is greater.
